BET ON SPORTS SITUATION REMAINS IN FLUX— 8/4/2006
By Kevin O’Neill
Football Annual: Many of you have asked about my 16-page Maximum Profit Football Annual with the go with and go against teams. It is going out soon and you should receive it by August 25th. If you received a post card from me in May about my Industry Coaching Program than you are on the list to receive it. If you didn't receive that post card you may have fallen through the cracks somehow due an address change, data entry error, etc. If you didn't get that post card. Visit this link to insure that you get the 2006 Maximum Profit Football Annual for free. Ignore the fact that the signup page says 2005 and click here. That will get you the annual.

BOS Situation: Here's the current status of the BetOnSports situation. If you missed the initial article on this, check out the background on this in the article entitled Department of Justice Action Leaves 100,000 Americans in the Lurch at www.ConsumerBet.com.

There isn’t a whole lot new to report from a customer standpoint. This situation remains unsettled. If you have money in a BetOnSports book that you want to get out it is suggested that you be visiting the proper web site every couple of days to see if the status has changed and they're processing payments. Don't expect much to happen in the next ten days but if you have an account at one of their books check regularly to see what happens.

The company is claiming they haven't been properly served with the indictment. Are they biding time to fight it or are they just clueless as to what their next step should be?

If BetOnSports has enough money to cover players money, as corporate reports apparently say they do, what's the hold up? It looks like the Brits running the joint are trying to figure out how to best protect themselves.

One of numerous media reports indicating that individual bettors who play online and offshore have essentially zero risk of prosecution. Dozens of such stories have run.

Looks like the earliest that customers could possibly get their money is August 15th or so. BetOnSports is complying with the temporary restraining order by not taking bets, but are not complying with the order to make customers' money available to them.

Here's one right-wing thinker who is none too pleased with government interference with American's desire to gamble online and offshore.

Interesting two-paragraph article here. Nobody has pointed out that the investigating started long before Catherine Hanaway became a US Attorney. Rather than being the driving force she's kind of been handed this in her new job. Also, it is claimed by a DOJ spokesman that this is an isolated case, not a crackdown on the online gambling industry in general. BOS did a lot to make themselves visible and a target.

Again, keep your eyes on the BOS sites if you have money in one. There is both reason for hope and reason for pessimism. The British directors of the company are essentially mum on the issue. This will likely be a "how not to act" lesson in crisis management. But employees at BOS are confident that they'll be operating again and they supposedly have tons of cash in this publicly held corporation. With the lack of communication from the directors of BOS it is impossible to know how this will play out. We should know more in about ten days or so.
